PLW had a great GEOINT this year! We were highlighting our industry leading 3D City Models in two very interesting VR apps.
One of the VR apps is a fully immersive simulation of a bird flying through our New York City model. This simulator is very interesting, you actually lie on the it, don a VR headset for 3D visual effect and headphones for audio effect, then commence to flap your wings to tour the city! This simulator was provided to us by Somniacs and is named Birdly.
The second VR app utilizes our San Francisco model. You don a VIVE VR headset to immerse yourself into the model and utilize hand controlled wands to teleport through the city and plan a drone flight! You can take a stroll amongst the city with this app! This app was provided to us by Amber Garage and is called Skywand (https://vimeo.com/skywand).
PLW models are uniquely situated to take advantage of VR apps because of their overall fidelity and accuracy. PLW models are photo-accurate and you can see some examples of them on our YouTube Channel.
Our exhibit caught the eyes of some very important people. As a matter of fact, we were one of just 5 or 6 booths chosen for a visit from General James R. Clapper, Director of National intelligence. We were able to meet the General and discuss our 3D City Models and potential applications with him.
General Clapper wasn’t the only dignitary interested in our exhibit. Dr. Stacey Dixon, Deputy Director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), actually took flight on Birdly. See our pictures!
