PLW Visits CES 2017
PLW Modelworks visited Las Vegas earlier this month for the CES show held by the Consumer Technology Association. In an effort to highlight the fidelity and accuracy of our fully textured 3D city models, we have recently delved into the Virtual Reality world by working with Somniacs and the Birdly, a fully immersive VR flight simulator that you use to fly through our 3D city model of Manhattan. We also work with Amber Garage and their VR application, Skywand. This application lets you navigate around the PLW 3D city models of San Francisco, California, Rome, Italy and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. You can take a vacation without leaving home!
Being new to the VR world, we visited CES in search of new technology that could benefit us in future endeavors. One application that really stood out to us was LeapMotion software used with 3Glasses S1 Blubur VR headset. This technology allowed you to pick up and move virtual blocks by tracking your hand motions. This headset also has headphones connected to it, which would be ideal for the Birdly flight simulator.
The tradeshow also featured many other new technologies and gadgets including futuristic self-driving cars, cameras, smart homes, smart glasses, drones, high-resolution TVs and audio headsets. We look forward to attending CES next year to see what it has to offer!
